How Style Summit Africa started

Cropped vertical bannerI created this blog mainly for 3 reasons:

1) I love fashion, style and everything in the creative industries

2) I was annoyed at the global misrepresentation of fashion by Africans and I wanted to dispel the notion that African fashion is only African print, dashikis and animal print.

3) I wanted to encourage designers and creatives of African descent to continue to create while opening them up to new markets.

Advice to new bloggers

When posting on your blog, find the day and time that works best for you and your followers. You can do this by experimenting with different days and times. Just because everyone else posts on certain day does not mean you should too. When you find the perfect day, be consistent and keep posting!

My second piece of advice is to take your blog seriously. Know what your blog’s brand image is and center your pictures, posts, theme etc around that. Every visual part of your blog should communicate the same message. Also, make the effort to edit your blogs before posting them. No one wants to repeatedly read bad grammar and see all your mistakes!

Finally, support other bloggers. We all need each other and there is so much you can learn just by connecting with others.

My nominees (in no particular order):
